WK12-Artist Interview-Henry David Thoreau

This week, the artwork I picked it a pencil painting “16×20”, which is made by Henry David Thoreau, the title is called “Class”.

I like the style of this artwork is because it looks so cute, just like a comic. The meaning of it is also very obvious, there is an old lady with a crutch stand at the back center of the room watching and teaching children how to dance. There is a man who sit in front of a big piano playing the music, the old lady should be the main character in this piece of artwork, because she looks kind mean from the way she hold her position, and also from her huge reflection of her body shadow, which makes her seems very lonely, and inaccessible.

From the artist statement, I learned that when she was little, she grew up in a princesses, and power rangers; play time, potty time, and reading time. Her artworks inspiration are all basically comes from the memories when she was little. Henry states that when she was young, and always dreamed about everything that she could do if she get older; but now, she suddenly realized that things from her childhood time can be never come back. She want to show her artworks to remind everyone to roll down the window, close the eyes, and dream. These dreams can paint riot of color on an otherwise gloomy day.

For this week activity, I decided to do an oil painting. I really got into a ancient Chinese series  drama, and their images are extremely beautiful. I went online to collected the poster images, and found one that makes me want to paint. So I start my painting long time ago, but I’m so busy   since the school start, I never get to finish it. Until this art activity, it remind me about this unfinished painting, and I finally decided to finish the whole painting in one week.
This Chinese drama is called  ” The Palace: The locked heart jade” , the drama is about a is a simple and kind-hearted girl from the 21st century. One day she accidentally travels through time and ends up in the 1700s, in the forbidden city.  She meets the historical figure, and get involved into the history. She has to learn the hard way that history books do not always tell the whole story and her broken heart might just be mended by the most unexpected person. Her wit and knowledge of the future puts her right in the middle of the heated competition for the throne.

WK11- Classmate Interview-Yu-Tung Lin (Michelle)

My interview partner for this week is Yu-Tung Lin(Michelle),who is  a junior, major in Business Human Resource Management http://yutunglin.com/. The girl, who is in the middle of the photo is a new friend I met on that day, she is a senior exchange student from south korea, and she just came here two months ago. Sbe is  trying to make new friends, so she stopped me when I was on my way to the art gallery. We had a long conversation, and it is very nice to talk with her.

This week, when we walking around the gallery this thursday, the gallery of Wesley Hicks makes us very interested in and we looked for a while. Michelle think all the sculpture of Wesley Hicks are cool and special, most of them are break into many pieces to form a artwork, and it was pretty interest that artist use this style. First Michelle saw this artwork, she think of end of world. It seem like the city just destroy by some disaster and all the building fall apart and maybe descry in half. The furry style crab my attention too look at it deep too. All the piece of this artwork, Michelle thought of them are building fall apart by some disaster, such as watering, earthquake or some natural disaster. She do not know why she will think of this situation, maybe because the piece is look like the style of building. Michelle also find out most of the artwork that Wesley Hick uses are fall apart in many pieces, such as broke plate, cup or some model.

WK11-Artist Interview-Wesley Hick

In this week, the artwork I picked is made by Wesley Hicks, and the artwork is made out of ceramics, conceal with paint and mixed media.

When I saw it, the shape of the artwork looks like a special building, but in the same time it keep make me think about food, because the whole thing also really looks like dessert, maybe pies with melting Ice-cream. To me, the artwork is also very color, just like candy, something delicious. According to Wesley Hicks statement, his art is the reflected back at the world through a crazy mirror, in contemplating this idea, he create art if an unknown origin with only the way he present and arrange them as the context of what they are. Also the work contains imperfections and inconsistencies that have been painted over to further impede viewers from u standing their intended function and original state.

WK10-Classate Interiew-Yu-Tung Lin (Michelle)

My interview partner for this week is Yu-Tung Lin(Michelle),who is  a junior, major in Business Human Resource Management;http://yutunglin.com/

Michelle picked on the a small piano, which is made by  Diana Fleming: https://wordpress.com/tag/allen/

Michelle think the artwork from the gallery is pretty interesting because it is simple that artist use the bling decoration to cover the model. The piano is the pretties. She like it because the color and the style with special decoration is totally fit together! Michelle also love to see the artwork of object instead 2D painting or drawing. Beause Diana always use the same color with model and sparkling,  it makes Michelle think it is best to make the object artwork. It seem simple, cool and pretty. Diana also use dark color in Piano, it seem much more generous and luxury as previous simple model.

The second reason Mihelle like it is beause of the coloring. The color is bright orange and simple as week because all similar color. Due to the sparking is already complicated, so it is pretty smart to use smilier color together.

WK10-Artis Interview-Yee Li

This week the interview artist is called Yee Li, who is also a student at CSULB, and major in paintin &drawing. https://www.facebook.com/yee.li.391?fref=ts

This artwork is untitled, made in 2014, oil on canvas. I think this is an amazing oil painting, when I saw it painting, it grabbed my whole attention. Cpmpared with other paintings in the sam gallery room, this is the best one I would like to talk about for this week. The painitng makes me keep think about the roses, and the color is also very awesome color which looks very soft. Yee Li used different color of red makes the whole painting looks like a  ‎three-dimensional. According to her statement,  her inspiration come fron the exploring anxiety and fear through spatial representation. The spaces can influence the way we react the moment of trepidation, and the spaces can also interpreted literally psychologically, emotionally, and mentally depending on an individual’s perspective.

WK10-Activity-Landscapes with a Corpse

I really like this week’s activity, I think it is so cool to pretend as a dead person.

At first, I was planning to find a pretty place to be the background  of my image, but due to the time is tight for me in this week, so finally I decided to put my image mostly focus on  the  self-portrait, instead of the landscape(background).

I used a super big gauze scarf, and put it on the ground to be my background, and I also used some dry flowers and dry petal as part of the image. I want to show the beauty and elegant on the moment of death, and create a peaceful, serene image to make a expression of death is not fearsome, and maybe it just another beginning.
